Gold production at Caledonia Mining Corporation PLC’s (LON:CMCL) Blanket mine jumped by almost a quarter in the three months to September. The 13,430 ounces of gold represented a 23% year-on-year increase and a 7% rise quarter-on-quarter. Caledonia added it remains on track to meet this year's production guidance of 50,000oz and is on course for its long term target of 80,000oz by 2021. The miner is undertaking a major upgrade of Blanket, in Zimbabwe, including opening a new central shaft to access deeper levels. A new ball mill has been installed and the commissioning process is proceeding as anticipated, Caledonia added. The new mill will increase daily throughput at the Blanket plant by 20%, from 1,500 tonnes/day to 1,800t/d, and will allow Blanket to double 2015 production. Steve Curtis, Caledonia's chief executive said this quarter’s production included higher grade material from below 750 metres which is being accessed via the No. 6 Winze and an additional decline development.
