American Express Company shares rise as it ups investor payout

American Express was among the top risers on Wall Street in Tuesday's early deals.

American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) shares rose 1.26% in early deals after it hiked its dividend by 10%.

The credit card group told investors it would pay 32 cents per share, up from 29 cents.

Additionally American Express has launched a buy-back programme which will see some US$9.51bn of stock come out of the market.

American Express was among the top risers on Wall Street as the Dow Jones climbed 78 points, 0.43%, to 18,173 and the S&P 500 rose 0.36% to 2,153.
