Bango extends tie-up with Microsoft

The extension means users in Finland, Norway and Hungary can now pay for things in the Windows Store using their mobile phone account rather than a credit card

Mobile payments firm Bango plc (LON:BGO) has extended its partnership with Microsoft, bringing its technology to millions more Windows 10 users.

The deal means that users in Finland, Norway and Hungary can now make purchases from any Windows 10 device, including their Xbox One games consoles, using their mobile phone account.

Carrier billing, as it’s called, is a convenient method of payment where, in one click, a customer pays via their mobile phone bill rather than having to input all of their bank details.

"Bango is working with Microsoft and mobile operators globally to ensure maximum coverage of carrier billing for Windows 10 users" said chief marketing officer Anil Malhotra.

"We believe this will be particularly successful with Xbox One users, because there is a high correlation between games purchases in app stores and the use of carrier billing".

Bango claims that this type of billing achieves significantly higher payment conversion rates compared to credit cards.

The firm’s technology will be available to customers on the Elisa, DNA and Telenor networks in the three countries.

In addition to Microsoft – Amazon, Google, Blackberry and Samsung all use the Bango Payment Platform to provide carrier billing for their customers.

Shares were up 5% to 94.5p.
