Recce Ltd (ASX:RCE) has completed two tests demonstrating a sufficiently wide window between efficacy and toxicity of its lead drug candidate RECCE 327.
RECCE 327 is an antibiotic and anti-cancer drug that fights against viruses and bacteria, including superbugs, even after repeated use.
The first test was conducted upon 6 groups of 10 mice each.
The test indicated a large therapeutic window of between the 70 mg/kg and 280 mg/kg of RECCE 327 per mouse.
This is at least a 4 fold window and twice that which the FDA typically considers safe.
In the second study, no mouse in a group of 5 showed any distress nor significant weight loss upon a daily dosing regime of 140 mg/kg per mouse on each of 5 consecutive days.
Recce has now completed and reported very good data for RECCE® 327 from the 3 tests which are the most common reasons for test drugs’ failure in early testing required by the FDA:
- Sufficient solubility in aqueous solvents - RECCE 327 is highly water soluble;
- Not causing genetic toxicity, mutagenicity or cancer - excellent results on RECCE 327;
- Sufficiently wide window between efficacy and toxicity – which has now been reported.
Recce will now continue pre-clinical trials, to conclude the toxicity testing requirements in mice to advance into larger species in the aim of replicating these results before final submission to the FDA in Q2 2017.
