FTSE preview: Standard Life, Prudential, International Power, TUI Travel, AngloGold Ashanti

Half yearly results from insurers Standard Life (LON:SL) and Prudential (LON:PRU) will be the highlights of the week on the corporate front. On the macroeconomic side, investors will focus attention on Thursday’s weekly jobless claims update and Friday’s consumer confidence survey from the University of Michigan. US CPI will also be of interest.

The corporate data due out next week includes interims from oil and gas producer Dragon Oil (LON:DGO) and construction services business Morgan Sindall (LON:MGNS) on Monday and from InterContinental Hotels Group (LON:IHG), power generation company International Power (LON:IPR), engineering group Interserve (LON:IRV), paper and packaging manufacturer Mondi Group (LON:MNDI), miner First Quantum Minerals (LON:FQM), telecommunications company BATM Advanced Communications (LON:BVC) and resource company European Goldfields (LON:EGU) on Tuesday. Tour operator TUI Travel (LON:TT) will release its quarterly results on the same day.

On Wednesday, construction company Balfour Beatty (LON:BBY), engineering firm Meggitt (LON:MGGT) and insurer Standard Life (LON:SL) will release their half yearly results, while Standard Life (LON:SL) will also update the markets on its trading performance.

Another major insurance company Prudential (LON:PRU) will release its interim results on Thursday and will be joined by gold miner AngloGold Ashanti (LON:AGG).

Friday will be quiet in terms of corporate data.

Monday’s economic updates will include Germany’s trade balance and current account.

Investors will have the UK’s trade balance, ABC US consumer confidence survey and the Fed’s decision of the interest rate to digest on Tuesday.

US trade balance, budget statement and mortgage applications data will be out on Wednesday along with the UK’s unemployment rate and the Bank of England’s inflation report.

US initial and continuing jobless claims will be released on Thursday. The EU’s industrial production will also be out on that day.

The EU’s trade balance, US business inventories and consumer prices index (CPI), retail sales and the University of Michigan consumer confidence index will be released on Friday.
