Savannah Resources identifies anomalous lithium at its Finland projects

“This early work is already confirming both encouraging grades and defining significant pegmatites at surface containing key lithium minerals”

Reconnaissance rock chip sampling at Savannah Resources Plc’s (LON:SAV) lithium projects in Finland has returned “promising” anomalous results.

Seventy rock chip samples have been collected so far from the Somero and Erajavi projects, with three assay results returned from the lab.

At Somero, the initial analysis, geological mapping and rock chip sampling highlighted prospective pegmatites up to 1,200m long and 50m wide with an initial rock chip assay of 4% lithium oxide (Li2O).

At the Erajavi project, prospective pegmatites up to 800m long and 30m wide with an initial assay of 1.29% Li2O have been identified.

“We are very pleased that this early work is already confirming both encouraging grades and defining significant pegmatites at surface containing key lithium minerals,” said chief executive David Archer.

The AIM-listed firm has completed four weeks of an eight-to-ten week mapping and sampling programme and expects to receive the remaining assays over the next month or so.

Finland is one of the most prospective countries on mainland Europe for potential lithium discoveries, and its mining legislation and infrastructure setup make it a focus for a number of firms.

Savannah says one of the key advantages of its two projects in the country, is that they are located close to potential final customers.

Shares were up 5%, or 0.2p, to 4.6p.
