Windar Photonics PLC (LON:WPHO) has received more orders for its 4-beam Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) device, the WindVISION, from international wind turbine manufacturers.
The Danish firm has already installed and tested one of the units for Eleon AS on one of its 3.4M-118 wind turbines at the new Aidu windfarm in north-eastern Estonia.
Windar has worked with Eleon since 2013, although this installation is the first direct integration between a LiDAR wind sensor and the control system of a wind turbine at the design stage.
“The direct integration of Windar's LIDAR technology into a new turbine, which is expected to be sold internationally for a number of years to come, represents a new era for our technology,” said chief executive Martin Rambusch.
“We believe that Eleon will be one of a number of international original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) which will integrate Windar's technology into their turbines.”
In addition to Eleon, Windar told investors that two “top ten” wind turbine OEMs have also placed orders for three WindVISION units each.
The WindVISION helps with wind turbine optimisation by gathering a large amount of wind data using its four measuring points.
This information can then be applied operationally to the turbine to increase power as well as to reduce stress on vital components.
Windar, which expects to announce its interims on 15th September, estimates that thousands of wind turbines will be sold between now and 2020.
Shares were up 2p, or 3%, to 64p.
