St George Mining drills into more nickel sulphides at Windsor

St George Mining (ASX:SGQ) has now intersected extensive intervals of disseminated nickel sulphides at its Windsor prospect, which is within its East Laverton Project in Western Australia.

Interim XRF analysis indicates nickel values up to 0.73% nickel within a 116 metre thick eastern section of the mineralised ultramafic.

This continues the 100% success rate for drill holes testing eastern basal contact of Windsor ultramafic.

John Prineas, executive chairman, commented:

“The hit rate for nickel sulphide mineralisation in the drilling at Windsor continues to be exceptional, and provides great support for the potential of a massive nickel sulphide deposit to be hosted in this large mineralised ultramafic unit.

“With over 3,000 metres of drilling still to be completed at Windsor, there is an outstanding opportunity for our systematic exploration of this highly prospective target to deliver further and significant exploration success.”

A discovery of nickel sulphides at Windsor was made by BHP Billiton Nickel West in 2012, and outlines the prospectivity of the area.

This included: 30 metres at 0.31% nickel from 108 metres, including 8 metres at 0.44% nickel and 2 metres at 0.62% nickel, and established the presence of a fertile komatiite ultramafic.

Drilling details

Drill hole WINRC011 encountered multiple occurrences of disseminated nickel sulphides within a 116 metre interval of the high MgO Windsor ultramafic from 54 metres.

Nickel values from the interim XRF analysis of WINRC011 include an 8 metre interval from 85 metres that averaged 0.44% nickel.

This includes a peak value of 0.73% nickel over 1 metre from 86 metres.

St George said that a further 14 samples tested by XRF analysis returned nickel values between 0.30% nickel and 0.40% nickel.

A conclusive determination of the metal content in WINRC011 will be confirmed as the processing of this drill hole is finalised and once assays are available.

WINRC011 was the second of 13 holes planned for Windsor in the current drilling program.

The third hole is already underway.
