Spectrum Rare Earths (ASX: SPX) has commenced diamond drilling to investigate a Magnetic End Use Rare Earth mineralised target associated with an interpreted feeder system at its Shyfall deposit in the Northern Territory.
A near surface, tabular, Heavy and Magnetic End Use Rare Earth target in association with clay and iron oxides will also be tested.
Work is planned to investigate the surface clay and iron oxide rare earth association identified in recent trial pits where these provide the potential for lower cost mineral processing options.
Spectrum is using its specialist man portable diamond drilling rig which has allowed drilling to commence before the end of the wet season, which will collect samples for metallurgical testing.
Drilling will continue throughout May with metallurgical work scheduled for June after the return of initial assay results.
Skyfall is located about five hours drive south of Darwin in a district that is home to multiple heavy and magnetic end use rare earth prospects that would be favourable for lower cost mineral processing.
Recent XRF results on trial pit samples were the first significant evidence of mineralisation beneath previously outlined surface geochemical anomalies.
XRF analysis of trenches also provided notable readings of both neodymium and yttrium in weathered rock, evidence of an increasingly promising mineralogy.
