Southern Cross Electrical Engineering wins $40M Cape Lambert contract from Rio Tinto

Southern Cross Electrical Engineering (ASX: SXE) has been awarded a $40 million contract from Rio Tinto (ASX: RIO) to perform electrical and instrumentation works at the Cape Lambert Port B Project in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.

Work on the Phase 1 package for the car dumpers and screenhouse will begin this month.

The company is also continuing discussions with Rio Tinto on the Phase 2 package, which is expected to be off similar value to Phase 1.

This contract adds to the over $100 million in electrical and instrumentation installation works contract - the largest in the company' history of over 30 years - that it had already secured from Rio Tinto for Phase A of the Cape Lambert Port B Project.

Cape Lambert Port B is a key expansion of Rio’s port facility to support the increase in its iron ore export capacity.

SCEE had posted a 26% increase in revenue to $278 million for the financial year ended 30 June 2013 while net profit after tax rose 27% to $17.3 million.
