Santos (ASX:STO) has added yet another significant gas discovery to its portfolio with its Crown-1 exploration well finding success in the Browse Basin offshore Western Australia.
Wireline logging to date has confirmed 61 metres of net gas pay in the Montara, Plover and Malita reservoirs between 4,873 and 4,998 metres, with the well not intersecting a gas-water contact.
Pressure data acquired from multiple points indicate a high gas flow rate, with multiple condensate-bearing samples recovered.
Drilling on the well will continue to a depth of 5,200 metres.
The Crown-1 well is located about 500 kilometrs north of Broome, about 60 kilometres west of Inpex/Total's Ichthys field and 20 kilometres east of the Poseidon field.
Santos, with 30% interest, is the operator of the permit with Chevron and Inpex holding 50% and 20% respectively.
Santos is also set to acquire a 30% interest in the adjoining exploration permit, operated by Total, where the Joint Venture will likely drill the Dufresne-1 and Bassett West-1 wells.
