Resources and Investment (ASX:RNI) shares took flight yesterday after revealing that the first diamond hole at the Forrest prospect in Western Australia's Bryah Basin returned a major intersection of copper-gold mineralisation.
Shares were trading at $0.085 prior to the trading halt that was called to release the results, and made an intra-day high of $0.125 on heavy volume before closing the day at $0.105.
Shares are expected to open higher this morning as investors continue to digest the news.
The interval assayed 9.1 metres at 5.27% copper and 2g/t gold, with 8.35g/t silver from 142.95 metres, and included 4.25 metres at 8.86% copper and 2.84g/t gold.
Mineralisation consists of foliated zones of oxide copper, with strong zones of transitional copper sulphide hosted within a structurally modified, volcanic hosted, massive sulphide horizon.
Typical geochemistry of copper-gold mineralisation was present, with strongly elevated levels of barium, silver, bismuth and tellurium.
As currently understood, the copper mineralisation at Forrest is interpreted as a steeply dipping oxide-transitional zone beneath a substantial gold-rich cap.
Previous results from the overlying oxide gold cap have included 28 metres at 2.85g/t gold from 36 metres with 2 metres at 25.1g/t gold, and 10 metres at 1.94g/t gold from 110 metres with 2 metres at 7.13g/t gold.
Recent copper intersections have given 25 metres at 1.25% copper from 153 metres with 9 metres at 2.52% copper, and 4 metres at 2.11% copper from 158 metres within broader intersection of 30 metres at 0.44% copper.
The copper mineralisation has now been defined down-plunge over a strike length of 200 metres, and remains open down dip and along strike.
Forrest lies within the Narracoota Volcanic Formation that extends for around 12 kilometres, and includes Sandfire Resources (ASX:SFR) DeGrussa copper-gold deposit.
A priority follow-up drilling and exploration program is now planned at the Forrest copper-gold discovery as soon
as approvals are received.
