Biopharmaceutical company Neuren Pharmaceuticals (ASX:NEU) has been issed a notice of allowance for two patents by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
These cover oral formulations of NNZ-2566 and the second covers use of NNZ-2591 for the treatment of peripheral neuropathy.
Neuren is developing new therapies for brain injury, neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders.
NNZ-2566 is being developed both in intravenous and oral formulations for a range of acute and chronic conditions.
The intravenous form of NNZ-2566 is presently in a Phase II clinical trial in patients with moderate to severe traumatic brain injury, which has received Fast Track designation from the US FDA.
NNZ-2591 is currently being assessed as a clinical candidate for the treatment of chronic neurological disorders.
The patents granted will expand Neuren's emphasis on development of therapies for chronic neurological disorders, these patents will further enhance the commercial value of Neuren's drug pipeline
Neuren had cash of $4,867,000 at March quarter end.
