Meteoric Resources confirms diamond potential at Mt Webb

Meteoric Resources (ASX:MEI) has revealed petrological analysis of samples from volcanic intrusions recently intersected at Mt Webb in Western Australia, classifying the intrusions altered kimberlite, a favourable host rock for diamonds.

The rock chips were recovered from a depth of 96 metres; also reported was the probable presence of two generations of olivine, fine grained phlogopite and a calcite groundmass. Additional accessory minerals were identified as apatite, magnetite, chromite and pyrite.

Interpretation of mineral chemistry and petrology, together with previously reported whole rock chemical analyses, continue to confirm the diamond potential of the recently discovered 400 square kilometre Webb kimberlite field.

Only 7 of 80 kimberlite targets were tested during initial exploration due to drilling difficulties. Drilling by Meteoric and joint venture partner GeoCrystal is scheduled to resume later this month.

Mt Webb is located in the Gibson Desert close to the remote Western Australian aboriginal community of Kiwirrkurra, near the Northern Territory border.
