Volta Mining outlines exploration target for Gabon iron ore project

Volta Mining (ASX: VTM) has estimated an exploration target of between 385 million and 640 million tonnes at 30% to 42% iron for five high priority magnetic anomalies at its Mbombo Iron Ore Project in Gabon.

This is based on a combined magnetic anomalous strike length of 9 kilometres and does not include another four targets over 8.5 kilometres that have been modelled but have not being subject to ground surveys.

The Exploration Target was estimated by Core Geophysics, Perth, using geophysical data acquired on behalf of the Gabon Government in 2006/2007.

Volta added to this with its ground surveys over the five anomalies that discovered discontinuous outcrops of iron mineralisation.

While modelling indicating widths averaging 100 metres at the anomaly, weathering and vegetation prevented Volta from confirming the full extent of these widths and length.

As a result, the modelled widths are considered to be over estimates of the anomaly source and are a function of the wide line spacing and flying height above the ground.
