Viking Ashanti (ASX: VKA) non-executive chairman John Gardner has increased his shareholding in the company after purchasing a further 92,600 shares on-market.
Gardner acquired the shares between 27 April and 1 May for a total consideration of A$13,264.
He now holds around 4.7 million ordinary shares and 1.5 million options exercisable at $0.345 on or before 31 December 2012.
Viking Ashanti recently increased its gold Resource for its wholly owned Akoase East gold project in southern Ghana by 40%.
The project now hosts an Inferred JORC Resource of 18 million tonnes at 1.2 grams per tonne (g/t) for 704,000 ounces of contained gold.
The updated resource model has outlined multiple sub-parallel zones of mineralisation over a strike length of 3 kilometres, from surface to an average depth of 120 metres.
The Akoase East deposit remains open at depth, and along strike to the northeast.
Indicating the potential of the project, in March Viking Ashanti unearthed the thickest, highest grade gold intercept yet.
A diamond core tail was drilled to extend on a previous high grade intersection of 15 metres at 4.67g/t gold.
The tail intersected 16 metres at 10.82g/t gold, bringing the total intercept to 31 metres at 7.84g/t.
Further upside is that the new resource model has confirmed that higher grade mineralisation is best developed in the area of the previously unexplored Alimac prospect, where the thickest and highest grade drill intercepts have recently been reported.
