Viking Ashanti (ASX: VKA) has encountered the thickest, highest grade gold intercept yet at the Akoase East Gold Project in southern Ghana, West Africa.
A diamond core tail was drilled to extend on a previous high grade intersection of 15 metres at 4.67 grams per tonne gold.
The tail has intersected 16 metres at 10.82 grams per tonne (g/t) gold, bringing the total intercept to 31 metres at 7.84g/t gold.
The intercept indicates the presence of a higher grade gold zone that is less than 100 metres deep and extends more than 400 metres from the existing Akoase East Resource.
Other highlights from the latest reverse circulation and diamond drilling holes at Akoase East include:
- 9 metres at 5.44g/t gold from 91 metres;
- 12 metres at 2.30g/t gold from 35 metres; and
- 24 metres at 1.75g/t gold from 112 metres.
The latest drilling at Akoase East has been focused on the Alimac Prospect, which was targeted based on geological interpretations that indicated a favourable structural dilation zone for gold deposition.
Viking Ashanti is planning a heightened exploration and drilling program at Alimac over the next six months to follow up on the latest drill results.
