Thor Mining's soil gechemistry uncovers nickel, copper indicators in Albany Fraser

Thor Mining’s (ASX: THR) follow-up exploration in the well-endowed Albany Fraser Province has uncovered nickel and copper indicators from soil geochemistry work at the Dundas Gold Project in Western Australia.

The infill surface soil geochemistry is continuing in the northeastern part of the tenement and is being conducted in preparation for aircore and reverse circulation drilling.

The geology in this part of the tenement comprises Fraser Complex mafics and ultramafics which host significant recent nickel discoveries including Sirius Resources’ (ASX: SIR) Nova deposit 70 kilometres to the north and historical nickel intercepts nearby at Gnama Sth and Talbot.

Results of the additional soil sampling indicate three areas of elevated nickel which are broadly coincident with elevated copper.

Coincident elevated nickel and copper geochemistry is characteristic of the Nova discovery.

Mick Billing, executive chairman, said: “This is an encouraging start in assessing the nickel prospectivity of the Dundas project.

“A number of the results are clearly anomalous, and the spacing between the sample collection points is broad.

“We will be following up with an infill program to determine the potential for nickel focused drill targets.”

The soil geochemistry program is expected to be completed over the next two months.

Gold prospectivity

The Dundas project tenements lie on the general strike-extension of the Wiluna-Kalgoorlie-Norseman greenstone belt, the most prolific gold bearing belt of the Yilgarn Province.

The Albany-Fraser belt hosts a number of recent gold discoveries including including AngloGold Ashanti (ASX: AGG) and Independence Group's (ASX: IGO) 7.9 million ounce Tropicana Gold deposit, and other closer discoveries.
