Karoon Gas and ConocoPhillips spud second Browse Basin gas well

Karoon Gas (ASX: KAR) and ConocoPhillips have spudded the second well in their Browse Basin exploration drilling campaign.

Zephyros-1 is the second well in the program and is located in WA-398-P on the flank of a large tilted fault block about 9 kilometres southwest of the Kronos-1 discovery well.

It is designed to test the extent, presence and quality of Plover formation reservoirs.

Once drilling is completed, the Transocean Legend semi-submersible rig will move to drill the Proteus-1 well in WA-398-P on a large tilted fault block about 14 kilometres southeast of the Poseidon-1 discovery.

The first well Boreas-1 in WA-315-P had flowed gas at a rate of 30.2 million cubic feet of gas per day during testing.

This included associated condensate of about 18 barrels per million cubic feet of gas and a carbon dioxide content of 16%.

Pressure and flow data modelling by Karoon indicates that the Boreas test interval could flow at rates between 100 and 250 million cubic feet of gas per day in a development case.

Karoon Gas holds 40% of WA-315-P and WA-398-P.
