Karoon Gas (ASX: KAR) and ConocoPhillips are now preparing to carry out production testing at the first well of their offshore Browse Basin drilling program after intersecting gas bearing sands with good reservoir properties.
Wireline pressure measurement and gas samples recovered to surface from the Boreas-1 exploration well, confirmed the presence of net pay gas sands with good reservoir properties.
Production testing will begin once wireline logging and the data gathering program is completed and the production liner installed.
Once operations at Boreas-1 WA-315-P are completed, operator ConocoPhillips will move the Transocean Legend semi-submersible rig, which will be used for the entire campaign of at least five wells, to drill the Zephyros-1 in WA-398-P.
Boreas-1 is located about 4 kilometres south of Poseidon-1 on a large tilted fault block which is part of the north-east trending structural high of the greater Poseidon structure and is designed to test the extent, presence and quality of reservoirs within the Boreas-1 fault block.
Zephyros-1 targets a large tilted fault block about 8 kilometres south west of Kronos-1 while the third well, Proteus-1 in WA-398-P is located about 14 kilometres south east of the Poseidon-1 discovery.
Additional well locations for the remainder of the program will be announced as they obtain joint venture approval.
Karoon Gas holds 40% of WA-315-P and WA-398-P.
