Strategic Minerals Corporation (ASX: SMC) has kicked off a drilling program at its Woolgar Gold Project in Queensland to extend the near surface resource potential within the Big Vein structures mesothermal zones.
It will also test the depth potential of the structures.
The 7,000 metre reverse circulation and diamond drilling program – incorporating both infill and extensional drilling - will target six established areas along or adjacent to the Woolgar fault zone, within the Big Vein structure.
The company has also completed a 200 line kilometre ground magnetometry survey over the Woolgar fault splay area to identify potential areas of mineralisation and develop a geological model to predictively target further drill prospects.
This is located within the Lower Camp district in the southeast portion of the project area, and includes the Mowbray, Mowbray NE, Big Vein and Big Vein South prospects.
The Woolgar fault splay area is the intersection of the main Woolgar zone, a regional structural feature, and the Mowbray splay.
Extensive vein occurrences, scattered historic workings and coincident gold in soil anomalies have been identified in previous surveys by the company.
Preliminary results have been received and are currently being processed and interpreted.
