Impact Minerals confirms nickel sulphide mineralisation at Mulga Tank project in WA

Impact Minerals (ASX: IPT) has confirmed the presence of widespread nickel sulphide mineralisation with potential for platinum group metals and cobalt at its Mulga Tank joint venture project in Western Australia.

Its ongoing review of the project in the poorly explored Minigwal Greenstone Belt has revealed previously unknown PGE and cobalt assay results that include 11 metres at 0.37% nickel, 0.07g/t PGE and 116ppm cobalt from 202 metres including 1 meter at 1.12% nickel, 0.5g/t PGE and 271ppm cobalt.

This confirms the company’s view that the Mulga Tank Dunite, which covers at least 12 square kilometres, has the potential to host a major nickel deposit.

In addition, a review of previous diamond drill core has confirmed that much of the nickel sulphide mineralisation discovered at the project is primary magmatic sulphide hosted in ultramafic rocks similar to those that host the significant nickel deposits found at the Perseverance (45 million tonnes at 2% nickel) and the Mount Keith mines near Agnew in Western Australia.

In places, the sulphide occurs as narrow massive layers up to several centimetres thick.

Impact is earning a 50% interest in Mulga Tank, located 200 kilometres northeast of Kalgoorlie from Golden Cross Resources (ASX: GCR).

The company is waiting on the results of the recently completed ground electromagnetic survey to identify specific drill targets while the award of $134,000 under State Government’s Industry Drilling Programme is expected to allow it to increase the size of its planned drill programs.

Mulga Tank covers 425 square kilometres in the emerging nickel province of southwest Western Australia that is host to Sirius Resources’ (ASX: SIR) Nova nickel deposit and BHP Billiton/St George Mining’s recent Dragon disseminated nickel sulphide discovery as well as the developing Tropicana Gold mine of Anglogold/Independence Group and the large and significant uranium deposit at Mulga Rocks.
