Hillgrove Resources produces first concentrate grades of 27% copper at Kanmantoo

Hillgrove Resources (ASX: HGO) has reached a significant milestone by becoming a copper producer with first copper concentrate grades in the range of 24-27% at its Kanmantoo Copper Mine Project in South Australia.

The company considers the initial concentrate grades "excellent" given the low grade feed used for commissioning activity and ore feed has now moved to higher grade material (0.7- 0.9% Cu), of which more than 300,000 tonnes is now stockpiled on the Run-of-Mine (ROM) pad.

The transition from first ore feed to first concentrate has progressed smoothly and Hillgrove expects first revenue in December 2011, following delivery of a minimum of 2,500 tonnes of copper concentrate to its storage facilities at Port Adelaide.

Hillgrove’s 450 concentrate containers arrived and were unloaded at Port Adelaide on 26 November and first shipment of concentrate is expected in February 2012.

The crushing circuit has achieved spot throughputs in excess of design capacity, which augurs well for plant throughput capacity as Kanmantoo ramps up to full production.

The plant contains surplus capacity providing Hillgrove with considerable flexibility for operational fine tuning and ultimately, low-cost expansion.

The company's next milestone will be first revenue for Kanmantoo in December, which will be achieved when Hillgrove delivers 2,500 tonnes of concentrate to its storage facilities at Port Adelaide.
