Frontier Resources (ASX: FNT) is carrying out alteration and mineralogical studies to provide vectors to the ‘hotter’ part of the gold porphyry system at its Andewa copper-gold project in Papua New Guinea that could host better grades of mineralisation.
Results from the latest diamond core drill holes at the project have returned molybdenum assays that generally increase downhole in two holes and in the first half of a third.
This suggests that the ‘hotter’ sector may be located further to the south, laterally and/or at depth from diamond hole ADH014 and similarly, but to the north of ADH016.
ADH014 also contains strong arsenic and antimony along with weak copper and gold, suggesting that mineralisation is located proximal laterally or at depth.
Forty holes have been completed at Andewa for 12,531.6 metres, with 18 for 9,907.9 metres since mid-2011.
Newcrest Mining (ASX: NCM) is earning a 60% equity in EL 1345 (Andewa) and EL 1951 (Mt Schrader), by sole funding A$19.25 million in exploration within 4 years. Newcrest has already sole funded A$6 million.
