Genetic Technologies receives European Conformity approval for breast cancer risk test

Genetic Technologies (ASX: GTG, NASDAQ: GENE) has achieved a major milestone for the expansion of the company's break cancer risk test in new markets, after the European approval of BREVAGen™.

BREVAGen™ has now received the CE Mark designation which will allow for sales in the European Union and other countries that recognise the CE Mark. Genetic Technologies will first focus commercial sales in France and Germany.

The test was launched in June 2011 in select regions in the U.S. and is currently available in 48 U.S. States.

The test uses a non-familial breast cancer risk assessment, combining validated breast cancer susceptibility genetic markers with a patient’s individual clinical risk factors - which then delivers a risk score.

This latest news for Genetic Technologies follows hot on the heels of the good news last month from California, where the Laboratory Field Services Unit of the California Department of Public Health granted a license to the Company’s Australian-based laboratory.

California is a huge market and represents around 11% of the United States’ total breast cancer incidence, with over 25,000 new cases of breast cancer diagnosed annually.
