Rubianna Resources (ASX:RRE) has commenced its maiden drill program at the Kookynie copper project, 60 kilometres northeast of Menzies in Western Australia.
The reverse core drill program will complete 36 holes for 5000 metres targeting seven areas identified by anomalous copper and multi-element geochemistry, with coincident geophysical features.
The targets are believed to represent separate but interconnected components of a volcanogenic massive sulphide-style base metal system.
Moderate copper mineralisation was intercepted by Western Metals Corp at Kookynie 40 years ago, representing walk-up drill targets in addition to the geophysical and geochemical anomalies identified by Rubianna.
The geology at Kookynie is similar to the VMS deposits of Teutonic Bore, Jaguar and Bentley which are located north of Leonora and all discovered after WMC completed their work in the area.
