Variscan Mines Ltd (ASX:VAR) has completed its maiden resource for the high grade Porte-aux-Moines (PAM) zinc-lead-copper-silver-gold deposit in Brittany, western France.
The overall resource grade is equivalent to 13.6% zinc, placing the deposit within the top grade quartile of zinc deposits world-wide.
The total Indicated and Inferred Resource of PAM is 2.2 million tonnes grading 6.0% zinc, 1.3% lead, 0.8% copper, 80.6 g/t silver and 0.9 g/t gold.
Infill diamond drilling will commence shortly pending approvals, to increase tonnages of the Indicated category.
Potential exists to extend the resource as previous work has suggested the continuation of the mineralised system.
The company believes additional volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) deposits may exist in the same rock sequences that host PAM within their exploration license.
A priority target will be the Les Essarts prospect, where previous drilling as identified VMS mineralisation including 1.25 metres at 7.0% zinc, 3.04 % lead and 0.22% copper.
One of Variscan's major shareholders is Acorn Capital, a specialist small and microcap investment manager.
