Progen Pharmaceuticals (ASX: PGL, OTC: PGLA) has successfully completed a definitive four-week preclinical toxicology study using intravenous administration of its PG545 cancer treatment drug.
Importantly, the study supports the new clinical trial being planned to start later this year with the company planning to test the safety and tolerability of PG545 by I.V. administration in advanced cancer patients.
Recent pre-clinical experiments conducted by U.S. collaborators had evaluated the therapeutic potential of PG545 in three different experimental pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) mouse models.
Data from these models showed that PG545 inhibited primary tumour growth and metastasis and prolonged survival in models of PDAC.
