Talga Gold's Swedish foray delivers graphite in maiden drilling

Talga Gold (ASX: TLG) has intersected some high grade graphite from the company's maiden 19 hole diamond drilling program at the wholly owned Nunasvaara graphite project in northern Sweden.

Highlights include: 85.1 metres at 22.1% graphite, including 33.8 metres at 30.5% graphite; and 59.8 metres at 26.4% graphite, including 29.1 metres at 31.0% graphite.

Results will be used to update the current JORC Resource of 3.60 million tonnes at 23% graphite. A preliminary economic (scoping) study will commend in the December 2012 quarter.

The program was Talga’s first drill test at Nunasvaara and targeted an upgrade the size and status of the high-grade graphite resource.

Worth noting - Talga intersected graphite over 1,200 metres of strike and to a vertical extent of 140 metres. Importantly it remains open at depth and along strike.

Adding to the potential of the area, less than 8% of the greater Nunasvaara graphite unit has been drill tested to date, with Talga having recently commenced exploration of the remaining 15 kilometres of strike.

Highest grade published graphite resource in the world

Talga said that the assays support what is renowned as the highest grade published graphite resource in the world (Ref: Technology Metals Research Advanced Graphite Projects Index).

Assays were conducted on two metre composite samples with the highest assay in this program being 44% graphite.

Selected downhole intercepts may be considered ‘spectacular’ on the basis that of the 8 non-Talga graphite mineral resources published in the TMR Advanced Graphite Projects Index the approximate average deposit grade is 10% graphite and range approximately 2% to 19% graphite.

Supportive infrastructure

Another plus for Nunasvaara is the already in place infrastructure, with the deposit situated within the Vittangi greenstone belt of the Kiruna mining district and advantageously lies adjacent to sealed roads and grid power - while being located 20 kilometres from state rail.

There are multiple port options for export of bulk materials including Luleå to the south that currently handles Panamax size vessels for access to major graphite markets via the Baltic.
