Talga Gold pleased with Pilbara gold drilling results

Talga Gold (ASX: TLG) has received assay results from a 16-hole reverse circulation drilling exploration program at the 100%-owned Kiwi Ridge prospect, within the Warrawoona gold project in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.

The results from the drilling program completed in August show that a broad cohesive gold mineralised zone, with interpreted true width up to 12 metres, has been located. The occurrence of coarse gold specimens from surface sampling indicates higher grade parts of the zone may exist to be tested in focussed follow-up programs.

Based off these results, the company says further drilling at Kiwi Ridge is warranted, and will be prioritised in conjunction with other prospects in Warrawoona.

The 1,118 metre drill program was a first pass drill test of the gold-in-soil geochemical anomaly discovered by Talga in June. Three traverses of 2-4 angled reverse circulation holes were made over 100 metres strike in the middle of the 500 metre long soil anomaly.

Key intercepts from the program included 11 metres at 0.57 grams per tonne gold from 24 metres, including 1 metre at 3.83 grams per tonne gold, and 15 metres at 0.35 grams per tonne gold from 62 metres, including 2 metres at 1.18 grams per tonne gold.

Meanwhile, the copper gossan in the southeast of the Kiwi Ridge prospect returned anomalous copper, zinc and gold grades with a best intercept of 1 metre at 0.26% copper and 0.12% zinc from 13 metres.

The company said the low results combined with subsurface geology revealed by the drilling suggested no further exploration for potential volcanogenic massive sulphides was warranted at the copper gossan site.

Talga Gold is focused on establishing near-surface, high margin gold mines by applying modern day exploration techniques to under-explored terrains, primarily in the Pilbara and Yilgarn regions of Western Australia.

The company recently completed a $2.1 million capital raising, leaving it with cash deposits of $4.5 million at the end of June 2011.

In addition to Warrawoona, Talga has the Talga Talga and Mosquito Creek projects in the Pilbara, and the Bullfinch project in the Yilgarn.
