Strickland Resources finds early stage bonanza grade gold at Curral de Pedra

Strickland Resources (ASX: STK) has commenced a diamond drilling program at Curral de Pedra which follows up bonanza grade gold discoveries in trenching.

Highlighting the potential of the project and no doubt sparking investor interest, highlights from channel sampling earlier in the month included the bonanza grade; 0.5 metres at 113.8g/t gold; 0.57 metres at 101.7g/t gold; and 0.65 metres at 72.7g/t gold.

Discrete quartz vein sampling (not included in the channel samples) included; 0.10 metres at 937.7g/t gold; 0.20 metres at 303.0g/t gold; and 0.15 metres at 207.0 g/t gold.

The drilling program will cover around 6000 metres with up to four drill rigs being used, with the first assays expected to flow through before the end of the year, with the campaign to be wrapped up in January 2013.

The key purpose of the drilling is to define the continuity of the structure that hosts the mineralisation defined to date at the Cascavel target.

Two-phased drilling program

A further breakdown of the drilling program has Phase 1 drilling (3,000 metres) targeting to extend the down plunge continuity of the Cascavel Target. Drilling is planned to define the orientation, size and shape of the mineralised alteration zone and the contained ore shoots. Drill holes are program to reach the mineralised zone at a vertical depth of 180 metres or about 350 metres down plunge.

Phase 2 drilling (3,000 metres) is planned to test for extensions of the structure that hosts the mineralisation at the Cascavel target up to 2 kilometres along strike. Additionally, some deeper holes are planned that are designed to intercept the mineralized horizon around 600 metres down plunge at a vertical depth of 300 metres.
