Cynata Therapeutics signs stem cell agreement with Waisman Biomanufacturing

Cynata Therapeutics (ASX:CYP) has signed a manufacturing agreement with Waisman Biomanufacturing under which Waisman will undertake process development, scale-up and clinical-grade production of Cynata’s proprietary Cymerus™ off-the-shelf stem cell product.

Cynata was formerly known as EcoQuest (ASX:ECQ) and transitioned into the stem cell sector via its acquisition of Cynata Inc.

Today's deal will enable Cynata to advance its next generation stem cell technology towards clinical trials, commercial transactions and cash flow.

With its proximity to renowned centers of stem cell research in Wisconsin, USA, Waisman is well placed to undertake this program.

Waisman specialises in translating scientific discoveries for early stage clinical trials by developing manufacturing and quality control processes in conjunction with product development and regulatory support.

Cynata's Cymerus™ technology includes proprietary methods of producing of stem cell therapeutic products that are believed to provide key advantages over the current generation of multi-donor dependent manufacturing methods.

Also Of interest was the recent employment of Dr Kilian Kelly as Cynata's Vice President of Product Development.

Dr. Kelly most recently served as Senior Director for Drug Development at Biota Pharmaceuticals, and has held a variety of regulatory and project management positions with Kendle International, Amgen (NASDAQ:AMGN) and AstraZeneca (NYSE:AZN).

AstraZeneca and Amgen are both capitalised at around USD$80 billion.
