Sirius Resources hits two near surface gold mineralised zones at Polar Bear

Sirius Resources (ASX: SIR) has defined two new gold mineralised zones from reconnaissance drilling at the Earlobe prospect, within its 100% owned Polar Bear project in Western Australia.

A total of 28 holes out of the 67 hole aircore drilling program intersected greater than 0.1 grams per tonne (g/t) gold and 11 of these ended in mineralisation ranging from 0.2 to 1.58g/t gold. The drilling is the first step in honing in on higher grade bedrock mineralisation.

At the Earlobe North zone highlights include:

- 19 metres at 0.84g/t gold from 28 metres, including 3 metres at 1.58 g/t gold from 44 metres;
- 22 metres at 0.52g/t gold from 44 metres, including 4 metres at 1.05g/t gold from 48 metres.
- 7 metres at 0.73g/t gold from 72 metres, including 3 metres at 1.30g/t gold from 76 metres.

The gold occurs as a broad sub-horizontal blanket which may reflect mineralisation at depth and the presence of greater than 1g/t gold at the end of several holes is considered highly encouraging by the company. The Earlobe North zone is 300 metres long, 130 metres wide, and is open to the north north east.

The Earlobe South zone intersections include 32 metres at 0.37g/t gold from 40 metres, including 4 metres at 1.87g/t gold from 44 metres.

The gold occurs as a broad sub-horizontal blanket that appears to be more strongly developed at the western end of the drilling traverses, which may reflect a bedrock source to the west of the recent drilling. The Earlobe South zone is 400 metres long, 120 metres wide, and is open to the north west.

Sirius is planning follow up drilling of these zones as the prospect is situated 5 kilometres southeast of Alacer’s (TSE:ASR)  Nawoc gold prospect where previous drill intercepts included 5 metres at 11.4g/t gold from 30 metres.

In addition, recent geological work has confirmed that the Polar Bear project straddles the south-eastern continuation of the package of rocks that hosts Alacer’s 2 million ounce Trident Gold mine at Higginsville.
