Oil futures closed lower for a third session in a row as concerns over Middle East supplies continued to ease.
November crude dropped 1.1 percent to finish at $103.59 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
The lower price of oil will put a dampener on some Australian stocks such as producers like Woodside Petroleum (ASX: WPL) and Santos (ASX: STO).
Prices have now tallied a three-session loss of roughly 4 percent. The settlement was the lowest for a most-active contract since early August, FactSet data show.
The U.N. Security Council is set to negotiate a Syria resolution this week, as world leaders travel to New York for the opening of the General Assembly. The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons said Sept. 20 it received an initial disclosure from Syria.
The U.S., the U.K. and France have accused Syrian government forces of carrying out an Aug. 21 chemical attack that killed 1,400 people, including more than 400 children. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has blamed rebel groups for the attack. Russia, a Syrian ally, rejected a plan to include enforcement in the resolution.
Syria borders Iraq and is near Iran, countries that together hold almost a fifth of the output capacity from the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.
