Senex Energy (ASX: SXY) continues to enjoy success in the Cooper Basin with a new development well and upcoming production testing of a successful exploration well amongst the highlights.
At the Snatcher oil field, operator Beach Energy (ASX: BPT) has cased and suspended the Snatcher-7 development well in PEL 111 as a future oil producer.
Snatcher-7 had intersected 7.5 metres of net oil pay in the Birkhead Formation. It was drilled as a deviated development well to drain the oil reservoir between the Snatcher-1 and Snatcher-6 wells.
The Ensign Rig 30 will mobilise to drill the Snatcher-10 appraisal well after operations at Snatcher-7 are completed.
Snatcher-10 is a deviated well that is co-located with Snatcher-3 and will appraise the mid-Birkhead reservoir north of Snatcher-3.
Completion work has also started on the Snatcher-4 appraisal well.
The successful exploration, appraisal and production testing at the Snatcher oil field, which underpinned the certification of reserves in February 2012, has led the South Australian Government to grant Petroleum Production Licence (PPL) 240 covering about 3 square kilometres over the field.
It has also granted PPL 241 in PEL 516 following certification of oil reserves at the successful Vintage Crop-1 unconventional exploration well.
Senex is also preparing to carry out production testing of the Mustang-1 exploration well in PEL 111 about 4 kilometres southwest of Snatcher.
Wireline logs had confirmed 4 metres of net oil pay in the Birkhead Formation while drill stem testing recovered 34.5 barrels of light oil from a 20 minute flow, or a rate of about 2,484 barrels per day.
The company has also started coring work on its third dedicated unconventional gas exploration well, Skipton-1 in PEL 516, and has completed 80% of its 790 square kilometre Cordillo 3D seismic survey.
Senex has a 60% interest in PEL 111 and 100% in PEL 516.
