Senex Energy poised to start fracture stimulation of Cooper Basin unconventional gas well

Senex Energy (ASX: SXY) expects to start fracture stimulation work on its Sasanof-1 shale and tight gas well to begin next week and is currently finalising the design.

The equipment and personnel from Halliburton have been secured and work is expected to start on 15 May once regulatory approvals have been finalised.

Senex said early results of rock mechanics testing and analysis of core samples from three Roseneath and three Murteree shale samples have shown the shales become increasingly brittle with depth, helping to identify fracture initiation points.

Testing on cores from the Patchawarra tight sands is also being finalised to support fracture stimulation design.

Sasanof-1 is the first of three dedicated unconventional gas wells Senex will drill in its 100%-owhned PEL 516 in the 2011/12 financial year. It is located 40 kilometres north west of the successful Vintage Crop-1 well, which delivered an oil discovery and showed very favourable conditions for unconventional gas.
