Shipbuilder Austal (ASX: ASB) has secured a A$1.6 million Fleet Maintenance Services contract with the Sultanate of Oman’s National Ferries Company (NFC).
The company previously held a three-year Vessel Maintenance Services Agreement which ended in October this year.
Under this new 12-month contract, Austal will support and maintain two 52 metre patrol vessels for the Royal Oman Police Coast Guard, three high speed vehicle-passenger ferries and one landing craft.
Austal will also strengthen its support capability in the Sultanate of Oman through investment in maintenance facilities in the ports of Khasab and Shinas.
Global operations
Last week the company officially delivered the first Joint High Speed Vessel (JHSV), USNS Spearhead (JHSV 1), to the United States Navy.
Austal is currently under contract with the US Navy to build nine JHSVs under a 10-ship, US$1.6 billion contract and five 127 metre Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ships (LCS), four of which are a part of a 10-ship, US$3.5 billion contract.
JHSVs are 103 metre long aluminium catamarans that are designed to be fast, flexible and manoeuvrable even in shallow waters, making them ideal for transporting troops and equipment quickly within a theatre of operations.
Austal USA has delivered 12 ships in 11 years.
