The large cap. resource sector continued the outperformance of the broader market which started mid last week, as global equity markets finally started to pick up in a sign the global concerns may not be as bleak as first thought.
The standout performer was Lynas Corporation (ASX: LYC) with a 8.0% jump to $1.89 as investors jumped back into the stock after last week's sell-off, after the company announced an update of the rare earths processing plant in Malaysia.
Not to be outdone both Gloucester Coal (ASX: GCL) $8.75 and Macarthur Coal (ASX: MCC) $11.24 rallied 2.5%, as Mount Gibson Iron (ASX: MGX) added 2.4% to $1.93.
Joining the party and adding more than one per cent today was Atlas Iron (ASX: AGO) $3.84, Alumina (ASX: AWC) $2.20, Paladin Energy (ASX: PDN) $2.64, OZ Minerals (ASX: OZL) $13.55, Fortescue Metals Group (ASX: FMG) $6.48 and Oil Search (ASX: OSH) $16.66.
Ending the day in the green, but adding less than one per cent was Iluka Resources (ASX: ILU) $16.66, BHP Billiton (ASX: BHP) $44.02, Resolute Mining (ASX: RSG) $1.19, Rio Tinto (ASX: RIO) $83.15, Woodside Petroleum (ASX: WPL) $41.02 and Aurora Oil & Gas (ASX: AUT) $3.48.
Equinox Minerals (ASX: EQN) ended the day flat at $7.90.
Therefore only the fallers are left which were quite subdued and fell by less than one per cent, and included New Hope Corporation (ASX: NHC) $5.09, Newcrest Mining (ASX: NCM) $37.61 and Santos (ASX: STO) $13.47.
