Major Australian resource plays have been very well supported in afternoon intra-day trade today, with 19 of the top 20 by market capitalisation in the green.
Leading the charge is Resolute Mining (ASX: RSG) which has spiked 8.1% to $1.14 as the company announced that the Syama operation in Mali is to underpin a major lift in 2011-12 gold production.
Also very well supported is Atlas Iron (ASX: AGO) with a 5.6% rally to $3.56, as rare earth play Lynas Corporation (ASX: LYC) added 3.4% to $1.97 while Fortescue Metals Group (ASX: FMG) is up over 3.0% to $6.17.
Highlighting the support for large cap. ASX resource stocks is another eight have added more than two per cent, being Alumina (ASX: AWC) $2.08, Macarthur Coal (ASX: MCC) $10.47, Oil Search (ASX: OSH) $6.46, Woodside Petroleum (ASX: WPL) $40.58, Newcrest Mining (ASX: NCM) $37.12, OZ Minerals (ASX: OZL) $12.57, BHP Billiton (ASX: BHP) $43.26 and Santos (ASX: STO) $13.19.
Adding a more modest one per cent or higher is Aurora Oil & Gas (ASX: AUT) $3.29, Mount Gibson Iron (ASX: MGX) $1.73, Paladin Energy (ASX: PDN) $2.43, Rio Tinto (ASX: RIO) $81.66 and New Hope Corporation (ASX: NHC) $5.05.
Only just creeping into the green is Gloucester Coal (ASX: GCL) which is up 0.9% to $8.17 and Iluka Resources (ASX: ILU) increasing 0.4% to $15.98.
The ugly duckling and only faller on the day is Equinox Minerals (ASX: EQN) which has been sold off slightly by 0.3% to $7.84.
