Major ASX resource gainers: Iluka Resources, Mount Gibson Iron, Lynas Corporation, Gloucester Coal

Major Australian resource stocks were sold off today, with only five of the top 20 stocks by market capitalisation ending the day higher. Across the broader market, the All Ordinaries closed 14 points lower at 4638.

Major Australian resource stocks were sold off across the board today, with only five of the top 20 stocks by market capitalisation ending the day higher.

There were a few diamonds in the rough, with Iluka Resources (ASX: ILU) gaining some investor friends and adding 3.7% to $17.62.

The other well supported stock was Mount Gibson Iron (ASX: MGX) which added 2.0% to $1.78.

Increasing by less than one per cent on the day included Lynas Corporation $2.05 (ASX: LYC), Gloucester Coal $8.22 (ASX: GCL) and Fortescue Metals Group $6.30 (ASX: FMG).

Investors continue to take the knife to uranium producer Paladin Energy $2.49 (ASX: PDN) with the stock losing another 4.6%. The company is now around a quarter of the all time high reached a couple of years ago.

Other major resource stocks sold off by more than one per cent included Atlas Iron $3.60 (ASX: AGO), Alumina $2.18 (ASX: AWC), Macarthur Coal $10.94 (ASX: MCC), Santos $13.85 (ASX: STO), Newcrest Mining $37.00 (ASX: NCM), OZ Minerals $13.54 (ASX: OZL) and Aurora Oil & Gas $3.26 (ASX: AUT).

Falling slightly by less than one per cent included Resolute Mining $1.11 (ASX: RSG), New Hope Corporation $5.09 (ASX: NHC), Equinox Minerals $7.80 (ASX: EQN), Woodside Petroleum $43.34 (ASX: WPL), BHP Billiton $42.89 (ASX: BHP), Rio Tinto $80.08 (ASX: RIO) and Oil Search $6.82 (ASX: OSH).

Of the resource focused indices, the S&P/ASX 200 Materials fell 0.4% and S&P/ASX 200 Energy lost 0.7%.
