THE aftermath of our last non-resources event was quite extraordinary.
Certainly the address by Professor Mark Ferguson, chief executive of Renovo (LON:RNVO), seemed to strike the perfect note with investors.
The next day we saw a sharp rise in the share price accompanied by some very heavy buying activity.
This is something that shouldn’t have surprised us here at Proactive Investors, given the persuasive and detailed analysis of Renovo’s prospects outlined by Ferguson.
But the scale of response has taken us all aback.
The shares jumped 10 per cent the morning after the presentation and have climbed a third in value in just a month.
If that was exciting, then followers of our other big draw – Biocompatibles (LON:BII) – were probably stunned by what happened in the days after chief executive Crispin Simon’s appearance at the Chesterfield.
We can’t claim credit for the shock bid approach the company received - and we certainly didn’t get a whiff of the breaking news.
However it is a prime example of how fast moving the sector is at the moment – and why you can’t afford to miss the next presentation on Thursday.
So what does our non-resources event have to offer this month? Well if anything the roster is even more exciting.
We are kicking off with e-Therapeutics (LON:ETX).
It specialises in a little known area called network pharmacology.
Big in the US, it won't be long before you are hearing a great deal more about this promising drug development platform on this side of the Pond.
Professor Malcolm Young will explain the science and tell us about the five drug candidates that are going into clinical development.
Advanced Cell Technology (OTCBB: ACTC) is another of our guests in an emerging field of biotechnology.
ACT specialises in regenerative medicine and is focused on heart failure and retinal disorders.
William Caldwell joins us from the US to talk us through the development time-line for these promising cellular therapies.
He will be followed by Kiotech's (AIM: KIO) Richard Edwards, who will update us on his plans to create a strong niche player in the developing market for animal feed additives.
A year on from the acquisition of rival Optivite, he is keen to kick on with his "buy and build" strategy. Hear more about his plans when he addresses a specially invited audience at the Chesterfield Mayfair Hotel.
Camco International (AIM:CAO), the Aim-listed emission reduction and green energy developer, is a late, but welcome addition to our list.
