FTSE weekly news wrap: Man Group, AstraZeneca, Yell Group, Pearson, Tullow Oil, Britvic

Man Group (LSE:EMG) has beefed up its funds under management through the acquisition of New York listed hedge fund GLG Partners (NYSE:GLG) in a $1.6 billion deal.

London listed pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca (LSE:AZN) has settled a patent dispute with US listed Teva Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:TEVA) related to a proposed generic version of AstraZeneca’s Entocort EC capsules.

FTSE 250 drinks group Britvic (LSE:BVIC) is acquiring French fruit juice and syrups company Fruité for €237 million in cash, which will be partially funded through a placing of 21.7 million shares through an accelerated book build commenced this morning.

Shares in FTSE 250 constituent Yell Group (LSE:YELL) where hammered this morning after the company confirmed that John Condron and John Davis, CEO and FD respectively, had given notice of their intention to leave the company.

Pearson (LSE:PSON) has added beefed up its presence in the vocational learning sector through the acquisition of Melorio Plc (AIM:MLO) for £99.3 million.

Tullow Oil (LSE:TLW) has delivered an impressive track record when it comes to drilling and discovering oil, and this morning it delivered again. Tullow has interests in three licences in the Lake Albert Rift Basin in Uganda. Tullow operates Block 2 with a 100% interest and has a 50% interest in Blocks 1 and 3A which are operated by Heritage Oil (LSE:HOIL).
