Intra Energy Corporation (ASX:IEC), which is the only producing thermal coal miner in Eastern Africa with mines in Tanzania and Malawi to our knowledge, has been granted "Registered Investor" status in the Malawi energy sector.
The status ensures that its Malawi subsidiary Pamodzi Power is in the running for special tax incentives for its Pamodzi project - which aims to develop the construction and operation of a 120MW power generation facility at Chipoka near Salima and Lilongwe.
The support from the Malawi Investment and Trade Centre is significant as it affirms the importance of Intra Energy’s energy projects in Malawi.
Intra Energy is currently behind not less than three power station developments – Ngaka in Tanzania, Pamodzi in Malawi and Mbeya in west Tanzania.
Unquestionably, Intra Energy is under the radar for most investors. But behind the scenes it has plans that could transform it to produce coal to support industrialisation domestically and regionally in Eastern Africa.
