Australian Vanadium Ltd (ASX:AVL) has signed an agreement with UK-based tech company C-Tech Innovation Ltd to develop a vanadium electrolyte plant in Western Australia.
AVL is an emerging vanadium producer focused on the development of mining operations at the Gabanintha vanadium deposit in Western Australia. Additionally, AVL is leveraging opportunities within the emerging battery storage market.
Vanadium redox batteries offer almost unlimited energy capacity simply by using larger electrolyte storage tanks. They are suitable for commercial on-grid and off-grid applications due to their scalability.
C-Tech is an innovative research and technology company focused on the preparation of vanadium electrolyte for use in Vanadium redox batteries.
C-Tech has collaborated with AVL to develop a pilot-scale electrolyte mixing plant in Perth, Western Australia.
The scope of the agreement includes collaboration on the design and specification of a mine-attached electrolyte purification and production facility as part of the feasibility study for the Gabanintha deposit.
Gabaninthais world-class
The Gabanintha deposit is currently one of the highest-grade vanadium projects being advanced globally with JORC 2012 measured, indicated and inferred resources of 91.4 million tonnes grading 0.82% V2O5.
C-Tech will assist AVL in optimising metal recovery along with conventional metallurgical methods.
The agreement will also allow AVL to negotiate the exclusive licence to market the proprietary C-Tech electrolyte stack technology in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia.
