Attila Resources boosts coal exploration footprint in Talisker North Coal Basin

Attila Resources (ASX: AYA) has boosted the company's tenement holding to over 1900 square kilometres in the Talisker North Coal Basin of Western Australia.

The increase is from six additional exploration licence applications being lodged, which Attila said effectively locks up the coal bearing geology in the basin.

Adding to the potential in the basin, last month the company intercepted a four metre coal seam from 50 metres depth in a reconnaissance air-core drill hole.

Importantly - the discovery hole is located on the eastern side of the axis of the prospective Bogardie Syncline, in an area where no exploration drilling has been carried out previously by other companies.

Previous exploration in this region in the 1970's and 1980's by companies such as BHP Billiton, CRA and Griffin Coal, intersected Permian coal seams up to 2 metres thick similar in age and quality to coal measures in the southern basins of Western Australia, including Collie and Irwin River.

Grant Mooney, chairman, commented on the new applications and said, “Attila is extremely pleased to have lodged exploration licence applications that effectively lock up the entire Talisker North Coal Basin.

"Additional work programs are already being planned to follow up Attila’s successful maiden scout drilling program where a 4 metre coal seam was intersected.

"We are excited to recommence work programs on Western Australia’s latest thermal coal discovery.”

Attila's Talisker North coal project is located in the Byro sub-Basin on the eastern flank of the Carnarvon Basin, 650 kilometres north of Perth, and 45 kilometres north of Esso's 1980's Talisker coal discovery in the northern Perth Basin.
