Polymetallic explorer Ark Mines (ASX: AHK) has intersected some near surface gold at the wholly owned Perseverance Project at Bald Hills.
Highlights included 3 metres at 1.38 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from 28 metres, 6 metres at 0.7g/t gold from 28 metres, and 5 metres at 0.6g/t gold from 56 metres.
Providing a boost to the project, samples taken from exposed rocks immediately west of the Perseverance project returned gold levels of 2.01g/t, 3.33g/t and 2.45g/t.
The 1200 metre reverse circulation program was designed to test near surface mineralisation around the historic Perseverance Mine - which has a high-grade gold seam and was operational until 1951.
Roger Jackson, managing director, commented on the gold hits by saying that the early stage results are particularly pleasing as they show that the Eastern lens has continuity and needs to be drilled along strike to the north.
“These first stage shallow results are encouraging and confirm our earlier studies at Perseverance. There is certainly scope for more significant results to the West and down dip.
“We are still waiting on some additional assay results from this drilling program. After this, we will look at a more active exploration program to look at the western lens and down dip."
In other Ark news, diamond drilling at the Babinda project is progressing well with initial results expected in September.
