Alara Resources (ASX:AUQ) has penned in an initial Indicated and Inferred Resource for its Washihi Project in Oman and is currently studying the recently completed Scoping Study
Washihi currently hlds an Indicated Resource of 2.1 million tonnes at 0.7% copper and 0.17 grams per tonne (g/t) gold and an Inferred Resource 6.9 million tonnes at 0.76% copper and 0.16g/t gold.
Drilling at the project continues to encounter thick intersections including 112 metres t 0.78% copper and 0.11g/t gold and 72 metres at 1.26% copper and 0.15g/t gold.
Alara added a preliminary review of the Scoping Study indicated a robust project with relatively low capital investment and early payback of capital.
This is based on a proposed throughput of 500,000 tonnes per annum and a projected mine life of 8 years.
The Study considered the potential for an integrated mining operation based at Washihi and incorporating copper/gold mineralisations currently outlined at the Daris, Mullaq and Al-Ajal prospects.
It was initiated in April 2012 and does not include recently encountered thick intersections and additional mineralisation, which is expected to enhance the economics and scope of this project.
Further details of the scoping study will be released once fully reviewed by Alara.
Alara continues to drill at Washihi to test extensions of minearlisation and in particular to the northwest of where the thick intersections were encountered.
Recently conducted drilling has encountered 25m of copper mineralisation 100m though this hole was abandoned in mineralisation due to water and ground conditions.
The Oman Copper-Gold Projects are located in a region with several examples of VMS copper deposits in the Ophiolites and close to a nearby copper smelter.
