Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) shares rose 0.38% on Tuesday to $108.92 as the New York Post reported that Apple was courting Lyft.
Apple reportedly discussed a potential alliance with Lyft, Uber’s direct competitor in the ride-sharing marketplace.
While Apple is known for its design-friendly laptops and mobile devices, it has also made large investments in self-driving car technology. The so-called Apple Car is in early stages of development. It also recently made a $1bln investment in Chinese ride-sharing company Didi Chuxing Technology Co., a competitor to Uber.
Uber announced it was selling its China operations to Didi Chuxing at the beginning of August, after two years and $2bln in losses.
Meanwhile, Uber looks to be weeks away from putting self-driving cars on the street as a pilot program.
Meanwhile, Lyft’s leadership team denied that a possible sale was in the works, noting the company had $1.4bln in cash.
