Square looking to ramp up Euro operations

Until recently, Square's payments service has only been available in the United States, Canada, Japan and Australia.

Mobile payments company Square Inc (NYSE:SQ) seems to be moving closer to ramping up its European operations after posting three new job openings.

Square is seeking a compliance analyst and communications manager, both based in London, and a technical customer support representative, based in Dublin.

The group which makes card readers for mobile phones, has already begun beta testing of its payments system in London earlier this summer to prepare for an initial launch in Britain.

The company incorporated a business called Squareup Europe Ltd in Britain, which is already using it payments processing technology.

Until recently, Square's payments service has only been available in the United States, Canada, Japan and Australia.

Analysts have pointed out that the position in Dublin indicates that Square has its sights set beyond the UK.

Dublin is a renowned up-and-coming tech capital. Companies including Google and software analytics company New Relic have offices there.

This month, Square saw a 41.5% jump in revenue and 42% growth in payments processed on its system for the second quarter. However, it is still unprofitable with a loss of more than US$27mln.
