Aminex and Solo Oil in the spotlight after first gas payments in Tanzania

Here are the Proactive Investors small cap and AIM news highlights for Thursday August 18.

A major project milestone in Tanzania put partners Aminex plc (LON:AEX) and Solo Oil PLC (LON:SOLO) in the spotlight on Thursday, even though it was more broadly a day for the small cap miners.

Receipt of the first gas payments for new production from the Kiliwani North field was big news for both groups, though these are two very different companies.

Taking a closer inspection Proactive looked at the importance of the key milestone for each company, and their varied strategies.

Close attention was also paid to Jubilee Platinum PLC (LON:JLP) as its cash generative plans continue to pay off and advance.

Proactive also examined Harvest Minerals Limited (LON:HMI) which as potash production nears continues to gain favour with investors.

Amur Minerals Corporation (LON:AMC) says it is ahead of schedule as it continues to progress the Kun Manie mine.

EG Solutions plc (LON:EGS) secured a US$1mln contract to supply its back office optimisation software to a “leading social networking corporation”.

The three-year deal, closed by eg’s partner Aspect Software Inc, will see the firm deploy up to 4,000 licences, with the potential for more to be sold in the future.

Akers Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:AKER, AIM:AKR) described a “highly successful” a study assessing the accuracy of a breath test for oxidative stress.

Its disposable BreathScan OxiChek device had a 99.5% correlation with the current gold-standard system, which requires drawing blood and lab tests that take seven to 10 days. As well as being simple and quicker to use, the Akers diagnostic also detects a broad spectrum of free radicals rather than just a few.

LGO Energy PLC (LON:LGO) told investors it has agreed a deal to pay its last remaining major creditor in shares, clearing the way for the group to start new drilling with a clean slate.

Specialist staffing group Empresaria plc (LON:EMR) said it was looking to fill gaps in its market coverage following a period of investment and robust first half results. For the six months to June, pre-tax profits were 10% higher at constant currencies, to £3.1mln.

Net fee income rose 9% to £27.2mln from £24.1mln and adjusted pre-tax profits of £3.7mln were up from £2.8mln. Average net debt was up 14% to £10.5mln due to increased investment in the period of £3.4mln.

Rex Bionics PLC (LON:RXB) showed once again that its REX technology can safely be used by people with spinal cord injury, after it presented results from its latest RAPPER II trial at the Military Health System Research Symposium in Orlando this week.

RAPPER II is a multi-centre, international trial to evaluate the feasibility and safety of the REX technology. It is the largest trial to date of a mobile robotic mobility aid. 96% of volunteers were able to complete the transfer-walk-exercise protocol, the primary endpoint of the trial. It reported no serious adverse events.

Nostra Terra Oil & Gas Company Plc (LON:NTOG) has confirmed the completion of its US$2.1mln sale of its 20% stake in the Chisholm Trail project.

It also confirmed the identity of the buyer as Staghorn Petroleum LLC following the lifting of a commercial commerciality clause. The junior oil and gas company said it intends to use the cash proceeds to accelerate its growth plans as well as general working capital purposes.
